I got into photography originally shooting cars! I was huge in the car scene so being able to be plugged into that community, people always wanted photos. That transitioned into wanting to get a better camera and years later, I grabbed a Sony mirrorless and just enjoyed the process. I realized that I enjoyed being able to capture moments and emotions for people to reflect back on because most of the time during an event, people are all over the place and aren’t able to be as present as they’d like. Having photos that capture the essence of the event is appreciated. I didn’t like to charge money at first because I did it for my own enjoyment. I enjoyed the shooting part but also the editing process. Because I enjoyed the process, I ended up providing the images to people very quickly. I didn’t feel the need to hold onto the photos and edit later, rather I wanted people to receive images sooner. Many people appreciated that aspect of it and specifically chose me for those reasons as well.
Clients enjoyed that during events I wasn’t as intrusive as other photographers were. In that way I was able to capture candid moments that were beautiful. One of the editing processes that I hold to a higher standard than I think most is the aesthetics of the people. By that I mean the photo can look great but I make sure that the people look better, that they have a flattering expression or their clothing is falling the right way to be flattering. Because I don’t want people to look back at the photos and be unhappy about how they look!
